Bovril in South Africa is a combination of meat- and vegetable extract. The product is non-vegetarian and not halaal.  Sadly, Beefy Bovril may NOT be imported because it contains meat extract from South Africa.  The reason is any country with Foot and Mouth is strictly monitored.

Bovril is the trademarked name of a thick, salty meat extract, developed in the 1870’s by John Lawson Johnston. In November 2004, the manufacturers, Unilever, announced that the composition of Bovril was being changed from beef extract to a yeast extract, to make the product suitable for vegetarians and vegans.  The taste is still pretty close.
